October 20, 2009Being a mom myself, I love seeing photographs of my children being who they are. I love when their personality comes alive in my photos, showing emotion, laughter, or even their serious side. I don’t know if I am considered a “lifestyle” photographer, but I am very casual, easy going, love capturing moments and I don’t care for fake “cheesey” smiles or stiff uncomfortable poses. I love making my sessions fun, non-stressful and have everyone really enjoy their time with me. I am a natural light photographer and therefore your session will be scheduled either early morning or late afternoon. My sessions are “on location” and I am available to come to your home, your favorite park, beach, or I can recommend one of my favorite locations too.
Are you wondering what to wear for your portrait session? Well depending upon what type of session you are having, here are a few guidelines: First, SIMPLE is best. It helps in maintaining a overall timeless portrait.
For Family Sessions try to coordinate your outfits to your children but don’t match exactly. You can do the classic denim or khakis, and all wear a different shade of green, or blue, etc. Have the child wear a solid shirt in the color scheme you choose and have Dad wear a complimentary plaid shirt, etc. (these are just suggestions!) Hats and scarves can bring a lot to a photograph, so you can accessorize with those as well.
For Newborns I prefer them to be photographed before they are 14 days old, in your home, and in their birthday suit! I bring along a space heater, heating pad, and bean bag, to make sure they are cozy and warm. I expect my blankets and myself to get soiled and am always prepared for that. Hats and blankets with interesting textures and colors make for great portraits, so if you have those please have them handy! Make sure the baby is well fed, changed and sleepy at my arrival time.
For an older Baby or a Child’s session anything goes! Bring several outfits, as long as they are comfortable! Bring along any accessories you might have; like their favorite hat (or yours!), scarves, boots, fairy outfits, tu-tu’s etc. Bright bold colored shirts photograph beautifully too. Also don’t forget their favorite toy or stuffed animal. It is always great to capture those treasured childhood memories! Also it is important that they have had their nap and are fed prior to the session. This just makes for a better time for the child and his/her parents!
For Tweens, Teens and Seniors, anything goes! Just bring along several changes or clothes, accessories, and your personality!
Approximately 2 weeks after your session, 25-40 of the best images will be ready for your in-person viewing appointment. We will schedule a viewing time after your photo session is completed, and you will choose which digital package you want to purchase.
